Kuala Lumpur 12/25/12 - 12/29/12

Kuala Lumpur, KL as it is known, is quite different than Singapore;  noisier, dirtier, and predominately Muslim.  We spent the first two days spoiling ourselves in our nice hotel for Christmas.  You can check out our Christmas post for the details.  It wasn't until we checked out from our hotel and moved to a hostel that we went out exploring KL.

The main attraction of the city is the Petronas Twin Towers, each at a sky high 1,483 ft. (451 m).  Although we went first thing in the morning to try and get tickets to go up to the sky bridge, which is a walkway that connects the buildings at the 41st and 42nd floors and provides a great view from up above, we didn't get to because the tickets were already sold out by 8:30 am.  Oh well.  While waiting in line we got to enjoy a video on the construction and background of the towers which was very informative.  The engineering behind the sky bridge and towers is quite remarkable.

Luckily though, we went to the Sky Bar in the Traders Hotel the night before and had an impressive view of the towers at night!  We went to the bar early so that we could catch Happy Hour and not have to pay an arm and a leg for a drink.  Plus, our "dressy clothes" are not the typical attire for the bar, so we went early to stay under the radar.  The view of the towers was worth every penny!!

The other place we spent most of our time was Berjaya Times Square, a shopping center with a theme park.  It is the 7th largest building in the world (keyword is largest, not tallest).  Besides the thousands of shops, food places, and cinema, it even had an indoor theme park with rides and a roller coaster! Since we were here during the holidays the mall seemed extra packed with people, and made for some great people watching.

We saw The Hobbit at the cinema inside the mall and enjoyed the movie ritual of coke and popcorn.  Matt wants to emphasize though that the sizing and quality of popcorn/ drinks was much different than home.  Everything is bigger in Texas :-).

From KL we took a bus north to Cameron Highlands.  Again, we got to enjoy the nice, big, plush bus seats that Malaysia buses offer.
